Sadly, at large, teachings of other languages in Cambodia, is made on the lowest level, so also by google and Co.
Khmer, not only that it is a very illustrating language, hold use of words with deep meaning, similar German. But like everywhere, ordinary use domains, not getting the meaning, but just words. So not wise people, when teaching language, wishing to give a short cut, translate into similar "ordinary meaning". In this way, by not trying to make a nearly word by word translation, and explain the meaning in addition, the whole gift of deep meaning gets easy lost.
So very good not to translate phrases by their meaning, putting used word in second line, but to translate first word by word and then try to arrange them in ways so that such use is valid in the other language, even if not a common phrase.
For example ចូលចិត្ត would be common translated as "like". If making use of "anti-cultur-crime-ways", trying to translate by word, it could be given as "penetrate the heart" or "enter the mind".
What do you thing? Doesn't it penetrate you heart actually more then just a 👍? Who ever thinks deep of what the meaning of like is, or the binding infect and impact when something takes over an, when not touched, free heart?
Sure, if translating common english into Khmer, by just word by word, it would be most poor. Here one can use mostly usual traditional phrases, since common english is propably the most poor and degenerated language in the world, having already lost it's root and got degenerated..
