Title: Sangham E-Mail server changes
Post by: Administration on March 22, 2020, 06:08:49 AM
_/\_ _/\_ _/\_

Venerable members of the Sangha,
valued Upasika/Upasika and visitors,

anybody who is using an e-mail address ...@sangham.net:

Due to a change of servers, the e-mail server and settings will also change.

Currently, e-mail is accessible still through the old Greensta server (mail.greensta.de).

It is planned to switch over to the new server, mail2.sangham.net (http://mail2.sangham.net), within the next two days.

E-Mail would be accessible through web-interface at mail2.sangham.net (http://mail2.sangham.net) (and later also mail.sangham.net - the name for now just has to be different) the same as before on Greensta.

The new server settings to be used in an e-mail client, on a computer or mobile phone, would be:
Incoming: mail2.sangham.net
IMAP:  - Port 143 (probably preferable)
POP3: - Port 110

Outgoing: mail2.sangham.net
SMTP over TLS: Port 587 (preferable)
SMTP (with or without TLS):  - Port 25

For a manual on how to set it up on a mobile phone / tablet, see this topic (http://forum.sangham.net/index.php?topic=8154.msg12481) created by Bhante Johann some time ago and simply change the settings accordingly.

For the migration to complete, the mailboxes of all existing ...@sangham.net e-mail addresses still have to be transfered to the new server. And for this, all passwords will have to be reset!
I will send out e-mails with new passwords that will be used on the new server. These can be changed later by the user after logging in through the web interface on mail2.sangham.net and going to settings / password.
Password notification mails will be sent to all existing ...@sangham.net addresses, as well as to their alternative addresses, if known.
Please write down your new (temporary) password somewhere after receiving the notification mail. You will soon not be able to log in with your old password anymore!
/me But then it is still possible to ask, by writing to moritz@sangham.net or admin@sangham.net, or, in case of no answer (mail can get overlooked sometimes), directly here on the forum, so the password can be sent again to an e-mail address of your choice.

Please do not change your assigned password on mail2.sangham.net before the mailboxes have been transferred.

Sorry, there had been a mistake. The mails with new passwords had been delivered to the mailboxes at the new mail server.
Now I sent them again so they get to the mailboxes on the old mail server, so people should be able to receive them in the usual way.

E-Mail passwords have now all been changed, as announced, in order to transfer all mailboxes to the new server. If someone does not know his/her new e-mail password, please just get into contact here, so it can be sorted out and delivered through a different channel.

E-Mails are now being transferred to the new server, mail2.sangham.net. New mail should now also arrive only at mail2.sangham.net.

After syncing is finished, the old mail server will soon be switched off, finishing the domain transfer of sangham.net.

Yes, it is certainly a scam.
Having seen many such and similar also for "moritz at sangham.net" and "forumadmin at sangham.net", but not the newer and not so publically exposed "admin at sangham.net", it seems just "normal" and unavoidable when an e-mail address appears on a public and easily searchable place on the internet. Bots will collect e-mail addresses they find and do such scams.

The e-mail addresses which are not so easily or not at all publically found, not mentioned on any internet site, will probably have no such problems.

Certainly there are solutions to recognize and block certain spam by various methods, some very rudimentary already installed on the server. Not yet gotten familiar with it. Filtering spam is a very complex problem.

Not sure whether a connection issue, a server issue or email software issue: since 28.10. my person isn't able to receive or send emails, as told Nyim Moritz , no errors, even if repeat settings, but simply endless try to up/down-load. Not that it is that very importand or needed, just to place the circumstances for information.

There seems nothing wrong with the server and all is working on my computer and mobile phone. So I assume it is connection problem or something wrong with the Sangha tablet.

Hmm... no idea. Maybe email-program is already to old. Connection is not always but most fine so far. No idea if the program could be re-installed if such might solve, or if a "virus" causes the new appearances. The space of the enail account possible full used?

Nyom Moritz might be maybe busy this days, so it should not disturb to much.

Question: The old admin panel for email gave info of how much percent of space limit for each email account is reached. It seems as if the new does not provide with such info and if certain email user don't use delta-chat (which would delete certain emails from time to time) their inbox might be full and they hardly would know it either. Any idea of how to look after it?

At the moment there are no individual space limits for mail boxes.
The whole storage volume for e-mail is 20GB. At the moment 9 GB are used.

But yes, possibility to set up limits and manage them would be good.

I just made a mistake updating some e-mail server settings.  :-|

At the moment now it seems, all incoming e-mail from other mail servers is rejected. Only mail from sangham.net is received. Sending mail out from sangham.net to other servers still works.

I am trying to fix the problem. Sorry for possible troubles.

Atma uses to give 100mb limit when creating new email. So this setting has no impact, or how should this "current no individual limits" be understood, Nyom? Or did he just removed them?

Oh, I see there is this setting in postfixadmin. But it is not currently set up to work.

Just looking again at the manual which I mostly used for setting up the mail server (https://www.exratione.com/2019/02/a-mailserver-on-ubuntu-18-04-postfix-dovecot-mysql/) it mentions mail quota and that they are not set up by default, and I have not set them up to work, but also gives some references how to do it.
I also found there is some plugin for RoundCube (webmail, which is reachable at https://mail.sangham.net (https://mail.sangham.net)) to see the quota.
I will try to set this up later and install the plugin for RoundCube.

But as there have been no limits active, some mailboxes at the moment are already over the quota. So the users would need to delete a lot there before setting up a quota for them.

Here is the list of mailboxes @sangham.net which are currently near or over the limit of 100 MB (and whether a limit is set for them at the moment):

Code: [Select]
93M	chamroeun
93M villa
104M samnang         limit 100MB
114M pich            limit 100MB
134M johann.brucker
152M samana.johann
156M anumodana       limit 100MB
175M rady            limit 100MB
204M john            limit 100MB
237M sukhavipula     limit 100MB
240M puthy
308M somonea         limit 100MB
349M forumadmin
382M danilo          limit 100MB
445M sarun           limit 100MB
467M khemakumara
535M vithou          limit 100MB
606M nerom           limit 100MB
648M malein          limit 100MB

Not really an idea how to "manage" data-mess by delta-chat use. For those using it, fine, as timely delete would act. Those no using, leave a huge copy store by time.

Yes. I will think about what to possibly do about it.

An "own" app with default "delete messages from server after..." and a bot posting chats, might solve it for those using it. Yet what to do with those no more opening the app... People at large are no more used to take care of their things, are incapable of sorting things out, used to google & co.

Maybe Nyom Danilo is not able to reach out forr Nuom Moritz if 'just' having sangham.net mail. Not sure if having common mail or aware of phone number in profil. Maybe Nyom Cheav Villa , as one of the main Brahma-Devas of this realm, or birth giving Brahma, Nyom Sophorn might be able to reach out and so also get in contact with Nyom Danilo, who was given access to assist Master Moritz, by Master Moritz, as far as shortly informed in Nyom's. one of the last post here somewhere.

(btw. as having been once a topic, association, even much, and giving into, with Devas isn't wrong at all but a safety measure within the world.)

Bhante Johann, I don’t know how to contact Moritz aside of through the email of sangham.net (unavailable for now) or through this forum. That’s why I'm informing what happened here.

And, just in case, to make the issue more clear: To solve the problem, all that has to be done is to turn on the server “mail.sangham.net” again.

Sorry, I did not read here for some time.
I have turned the e-mail server on again. Thank you for looking into it, Danilo.
My phone number in my profile was not up to date anymore. I have updated it now.

Atma is not sure whether email currently works well, seeming as if inbox wouldn't work. Also inbox via mail access online appears empty giving error:

Is Nyom Cheav Villa or are others able to receive others messages? Nyom Moritz?

Sending seems to work. Tested also via online client, when sending the message can not be saved. So seemingly a server problem, maybe full or not given to store.
