Question to [Svākkhātatā...] Verses in Celebration of the Dhamma

Bhante Khemakumara, Bhante chanted this part similar like the roman transcription

Vandām'ahaṃ tama-haraṃ vara-dhammam-etaṃ.
I revere that foremost Dhamma, the destroyer of darkness.

Transcription in Khmer, as well as book, doesn't have it. How do the elder monks of Vatta Akyum chant this part?

Everything fine and complete. Kana missreaded.

Bhante Johann,

Kana attached pictures of the Pali-Khmer texts.

The text “Bhavatu sabba-maṅgalaṃ Rakkhantu sabba-devatā.
May there be every blessing. May all the devas protect you.”
Is not usually part of a “Evening Chanting”.

Kana hear monks recite this text for example when there was an offering after an funeral.

Kana was reciting it in a situation of illness, as an possibility to investigate to overcome illness. So this “chanting” might be different to a “standard” Evening Chanting.

Sadhu!

Atma had seen that Bhante Khemakumara  had added two texts

Devatādipattidāna Gāthā Dedication of Merit to the Devas & Others and Bhavatu sabba-maṅgalaṃ and Bahuṁ ve saraṇaṁ yanti .

If the other missing are available in Khmer for him, maybe typing of sharing a picture of the text is possible, if inspired and not hindering other work.

If Bhante Khemakumara feels inspired, Kana could need assistance:

  • [kāyagatāsati] Contemplation of the Body seems to be different from the Thai/US version, at the beginning, Khmer misses the brain (had taught once with Bhante Indananno on it shortly), the end part of re-reflection is missing in the Khmer-version. Possible also other parts different.

  • 11 might be another end of the Bodyreflection. Not sure with an no equal text found.

  • Atma adds a transliteration of Pali in the topic in the Vihara. Good if looking if all is transliterated rightly or different pali.

Sure Nyom Cheav Villa ! May Nyom never feel limited if inspired (best in the topic ). Atma has stated transliteration (it might have errors). When something strange, that's a good working-topic for it.

Bhante Johann,

according to the text, When the sublime Buddha gave a talk how to investigate the Body, “brain” is not mentioned there.

Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammā-sambuddhassa

Furthermore, the monk reflects on this very body from the soles of the feet on up, from the crown of the head on down, surrounded by skin and full of various kinds of unclean things: 'In this body there are head hairs, body hairs, nails, teeth, skin, flesh, tendons, bones, bone marrow, kidneys, heart, liver, pleura, spleen, lungs, large intestines, small intestines, gorge, feces, bile, phlegm, pus, blood, sweat, fat, tears, skin-oil, saliva, mucus, fluid in the joints, urine.'

Sadhu, yes. In all sutttas in DN, MN, SN likewise. Brain is mentioned in the Khuddaka Nikaya on more places, like the famous Khuddakapatha and in the Abhidhamma. So probably later compiled in addition. How ever, it's just thought to 1. use the Khmer chanting foremost here but also give explainings (foot notes). If Bhante therefore would like to compair the text in detail, it would be good. There are also other parts of the reflection which are different. As told, at the beginning, in between some words, and the end. Also not to forget that the whole chanting are later compiled and so interesting that this part is very old.

There are also missing text where ever there is only a number as header.
