Are monks expected to accept life lessons from (time spent with) the laity?, was asked on another place, in a Village.

To keep it short: actually no. That is why the Buddha gave his monks teachings, advices and at least the Vinaya and to pick out a certain teaching, possibly fitting well to help to stay secure with ones ways of asking:

Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammā-sambuddhassa

Bhikkhus, families endowed with seven factors are not suitable to be approached, even if already approached it is not suitable to take a seat. What seven?
