Buddha lehrte uns beide Extreme niederzulegen.

The Middle Way

The Buddha does not want us to follow the double path-desire and indulgence on the one hand and fear and aversion on the other. Just be aware of pleasure, he teaches. Anger, fear, dissatisfaction are not the path of the yogi but the path of-worldly people. The tranquil person walks the Middle Path of right practice, leaving grasping on the left and fear and aversion on the right.

One who undertakes the path of practice must follow this Middle Way: "1 will not take interest in pleasure or pain. I will lay them down." But, of course, it is hard at first. It is as though we are being kicked on both sides. Like a cowbell or a pendulum, we are knocked back and forth.

When Buddha preached his first sermon, he discoursed on these two extremes because this is where attachment lies. The desire for happiness kicks from one side; suffering and dissatisfaction kick from the other. These two are always besieging us. But when you walk the Middle Path, you put them both down.

Don't you see? If you follow these extremes, you will simply strike out when you are angry and grab for what attracts you, without the slightest patience or forbearance. How long can you, go on being trapped in this way? Consider it: if you like something, you follow after it when liking arises, yet it is just drawing you on to seek suffering. This mind of desire is really clever. Where will it lead you next?

The Buddha teaches us to keep laying down the extremes. This is the path of right practice, the path leading out of birth and becoming. On this path, there is neither pleasure nor pain, neither good nor evil. Alas, the mass of humans filled with desiring just strive for pleasure and always bypass the middle, missing the Path of the Excellent One, the path of the seeker of truth. Attached to birth and becoming, happiness and suffering, good and evil, the one who does not travel this Middle Path cannot become a wise one, cannot find liberation. Our Path is straight, the path of tranquility and pure awareness, calmed of both elation and sorrow. If your heart is like this, you can stop asking other people for guidance.

You will see that when the heart / mind is unattached, it is abiding in its normal state. When it stirs from 'the normal because of various thoughts and feelings, the process of thought construction takes place, in which illusions are created. Learn to see through this process. When the mind has stirred from normal, it leads away from right practice to one of the extremes of indulgence or aversion, thereby creating more illusion, more thought construction. Good or bad only arises in your mind. If-you keep a watch on your mind, studying this one topic your whole life, I guarantee that you will never be bored.

The Middle Way is to enjoy what life has to offer without clinging to it.

Venerable/Dear @Twicslix ,

heartily welcome on sangham.net!

Please do not feel startled by our welcome. We attach importance that it might not happen that anybody would be overlooked or that we would not care of personal needs. So the technique helps us a little, in the case we might dwell in deep good or bad concentration of busy with something else.

To approach a new coming guest and visitor and to care for the needs of a arriving traveler is very important.

This is your very personal Topic and you can use it any time to introduce your self, for a Hallo and goodby, to inform others here about personal issues or for any very personal issues in regard of the community here.
From time to time, especially if you make use of this topic, we will move it into the "Further introduction - Genauere Vorstellung " forum, which is only visible for active Members. (for General Info in regard of this and Introduction please see here )

Since the forum is of course different to usual places it will require some help and support and not only out of this reason, please never miss to raise a question or to mention any kind of requirement. Just like home.
You can adjust many settings in your User-profil and add subscription to certain forum-areas (User account >> Profile settings >> group membership). What ever fits best to your practice and needs.

We wish you, Twicslix, much joy on your discovering journey on sangham.net and though the jungle of the Dhamma and we trust, that you will always find the proper things for your requirements and that you will never miss needed support.

Here we give you your random Sutta-stanza originated from the Buddha:
The wise hope for a child
of heightened or similar birth,
not for one
of lowered birth,
   a disgrace to the family.
These children in the world,
   lay followers,
consummate in virtue, conviction;
generous, free from stinginess,
shine forth in any gathering
like the moon
when freed from a cloud.

How is the situation with coronavirus fear and restrictions in daily life for now? Is it getting better, worse? Are there any rules imposed that everybody has to follow?
From what I can read in English language news sources on the internet, I don't find much information.

Moritz, [31.03.20 13:41]
I mean in Cambodia of course.

Moritz, [31.03.20 13:43]
In most of Europe they have imposed some rules, forbidding people to meet with morw than three people etc., to stop the spread of the virus, which will still last many weeks.
But I don't know about any special rules here.

Villa, [31.03.20 13:44]
It is similar here

Moritz, [31.03.20 13:45]
So what exactly, and for how long at least?

Villa, [31.03.20 13:46]
Thats Bhante means you have to stay at Akyum and do what you can do in everyday.. untill the the Corona is gone.

Moritz, [31.03.20 13:48]
I don't ask what Bhante means. I ask if there are any special regulations by the government that one has to follow here.

Moritz, [31.03.20 13:48]
till Corona is gone will take months

Moritz, [31.03.20 13:49]
till Corona fear (and maybe special rules and restrictions) is gone may take less time.

Villa, [31.03.20 13:50]
Yes, Bhante means he accpetd the rules of givernment.

Moritz, [31.03.20 13:51]
I see. But what exactly are these rules? Is there any place where I can read about it maybe on the internet?

So they want to impose a curfew from 8AM to 5 PM for example for some time, it seems.

  The Abhidhamma

At the heart of the Abhidhamma philosophy is the Abhidhamma Pitaka, one of the divisions of the Pali canon recognized by Theravada Buddhism as the authoritative recension of the Buddha's teachings. This canon was compiled at the three great Buddhist councils held in India in the early centuries following the Buddha's demise: the first, at Rajagaha, convened three months after the Buddha's Parinibbana by five hundred senior monks under the leadership of the Elder Mahakassapa; the second, at Vesali, a hundred years later; and the third, at Pataliputta, two hundred years later.
The canon that emerged from these councils, preserved in the Middle Indian language now called Pali, is known as the Tipitaka, the three "baskets" or collections of the teachings. The first collection, the Vinaya Pitaka, is the book of discipline, containing the rules of conduct for the bhikkhus and bhikkhunis — the monks and nuns — and the regulations governing the Sangha, the monastic order. The Sutta Pitaka, the second collection, brings together the Buddha's discourses spoken by him on various occasions during his active ministry of forty-five years. And the third collection is the Abhidhamma Pitaka, the "basket" of the Buddha's "higher" or "special" doctrine.

The Abhidahamma is the part of the Gautama Buddha’s teachings which analyses the different states of mind and which explains in detail about everything which is real. The study of the Abhidhamma helps us to understand which causes bring which effects in our life an in the lives of other people.

It seems like the whole world is still more and more coming to a standstill due to the coronavirus pandemic.
How is it where you are?
From here it seems, restrictions are very mild, compared with what is heard for example from Europe. I hear the coronavirus warning messages through loudspeaker from a car driving through the streets multiple times everyday. But it is still possible to go out, buy things in the village, while wearing a mask. (But not all people wear masks outside all the time.) Inside the monastery, life seems "normal".
How are restrictions to your life where you are? In Phnom Penh? In Brazil? In Austria ...

May all be safe, and may the hardships from destroyed livelihoods due to the virus outbreak be mitigated best as possible.

 Willkommen im Online-Kloster sangham.net

Ehrw./ Hr./ Fr. @Starfin ,

   in gegenseitiger Abhängigkeit
   beide erreichen das wahre Dhamma:
      die Sicherheit von Banden, unübertroffen.
   Von Haushältern, die Hauslosen,
   Bedarfsmittel erhalten: Roben, Unterkunft,
   Schutz vor Wetterung.

Während in Abhängigkeit von diesen Gutgegangenen,
   imhauslebende Haushälter,
   Vertrauen in die Arahats haben
      von nobler Einsicht,
      in Jhanas vertieft.
   Das Dhamma hier ausgeübt —
führt der Pfad zu guten Bestimmungsorten —
      in der Deva-Welt erfreuend,
         sie frohlocken,
       genießend Sinnesfreud'.

Oh, and your random-welcome Sutta:

Householders & the homeless
   in mutual dependence
   both reach the true Dhamma:
      the unsurpassed safety from bondage.
   From householders, the homeless
   receive requisites: robes, lodgings,
   protection from inclemencies.

While in dependence on those well-gone,
   home-loving householders
   have conviction in arahants
      of noble discernment,
      absorbed in jhana.
Having practiced the Dhamma here —
the path leading to good destinations —
      delighting in the deva world,
         they rejoice,
      enjoying sensual pleasures.
