Hello all. I'm the one who wrote and currently publishes the Access to Insight iPhone/iPad app on the Apple App Store. (All I did was write a sort of "wrapper" application for the offline version of the A to I web site; I didn't write or contribute any content to the A to I site or place anything new in the app.)
Due to various conditions I can't really continue to maintain the application or keep it published (it will be on the app store for almost another year since I recently paid the developer account renewal fee thought the content hasn't been updated in a while), so I'd like to find someone else to maintain it and hopefully add features that people have been wanting (like enlarging the size of the text).
Ideally I'd like to pass it off to someone who can have it published on the App Store under an account owned by something like a Theravada literature foundation (for example) that would continue to make it available regardless of what happens with any individual person.
I'm not sure the app is really all that important anymore since I think you can just get a decent PDF reader like GoodReader or PDF Expert and use that to read the html version of A to I, but it still may be worth having a free and easy to install way of reading the material for those with iOS mobile devices.
if anyone has any ideas for me please let me know. (https://forum.sangham.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dhammawheel.com%2Fimages%2Fsmilies%2Fthanks.gif&hash=3118f13d378c116b8003c9400fbae99d09663b0e)

Re: Access to Insight iOS App needs maintainer
Postby Digity » Tue Mar 26, 2013 2:41 am
I'm an iOS developer and love the app. I read it on the subway constantly, but always wondered why it wasn't getting updated. I could try and take over if you'd like. I guess we just need to sort out the accout stuff, etc.
I tried to PM anattasatta, but it said I couldn't. I hope he sees my reply.
Uposatha .ics?
Hi All :
Can anybody point me to an Apple iCal file (.ics) that shows the 2013 Uposatha Observance Days? I found the 2012 version on the Access to Insight site but can't seem to find the 2013 version...
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
With gratitude :

Sehr geehrter Viriya, werte Buddhistische Gemeinschaft München,
Hochachtungsvoll

Johann BruckerQuote from: Antwort per email am 13.5.2013Lieber Johann,

What's new
Changes coming to Access to Insight 2013.10.11
After 20 years of operating and maintaining Access to Insight, the time has come for me to retire from its day-to-day operations so that I can devote my attention to other projects. Over the remaining months of 2013, I'll be working on streamlining the website so that it can stand on its own, unattended, for long periods of time.
Here's what's changing:
I am no longer adding new content to the website.
The "Offsite Resources" section (links to external websites), which demand considerable ongoing maintenance to keep up-to-date, will disappear by the end of 2013.
Some of the dynamic features of the site (e.g., the "Random Sutta" and "Random Article" links) will also disappear.
The downloadable "Offline Edition" will be an identical copy of the live site; both will be known as the "Access to Insight Legacy Edition".
What's not changing:
Access to Insight will continue to offer the same extensive and deep collection of carefully indexed, annotated, and cross-referenced sutta translations, articles, essays, books, Dhamma talks, and study guides.
You can always download the entire website for use on your own personal computer or to repost elsewhere on the web.
I will continue to maintain control of the accesstoinsight.org domain name.
As Access to Insight now enters a new chapter in its long career, I hope you will continue to find it rewarding and helpful in advancing your understanding of Dhamma for a long time to come.
— John Bullitt
Dear valued John Bullitt,
two days ago I came across the News on your website. Even it was already foreseeable among all evolutions in the internet sphere it is nevertheless a very touching moment if faced.
One needs to mention/consider that maintaining something on internet for one years is for sure not even equal as to maintain something 10 years in the worldly realm. That is how your work should be seen, equal 200 years of service in Dhamma of an ordinary person in the world.
I don't like to miss to express my gratitude and respect of all your deeds done to make not only a ordinary content website but to bring a whole tradition into the/a graspable framework of this cyber realm, making countless beings an accessibility to something that is not easy to match in this environment. Even if it might sound like feeding honey, I have no other word as Dhamma symphony to describe it in short, like Mozart at my birthplace had done in a wordily way, such is you work in Dhamma.
May you have all the time to enjoy all the fruits of your wholesome deeds not only in this very life but for the rest to come as well and I have no doubt that it has actually worked for an unshakeable footing to the very offshore already for you. Even if you might appear in this world another time, you are secure to meet your legacy done for the last seven turns.
Congatulation to your merits Sadhu! and Thanks for the generously share of them!
*big bow*
Even trough I don't like to disturb you much, but maybe useful as an refection of all your good deeds, I would request you to write a short biography of yours as well as a short history (more in regard of spiritual development) of your work around ATI, since I am still on trying to develop your gift on zugangzureinsicht.org and don't like to miss to share the merits of yours in all aspects. Sure does a founder of a tradition, and it is actually a tradition, not desire to mention his deeds and aspirations, but I guess it would be more then helpful to display people that wholesome deeds are possible and that is what it actually is all about. So it would give them to straight their faith.
Personally I also don't like to miss to invite you do share all what ever you like to give on critics, hints and rebukes for the work we are trying to do, since at least I would not like to miss to consider only one thought of your experience.
But aside with all of this invitations and requests, I wish you much joy and success with all your need wholesome undertakings and may not only those but you your self be always entangle with this blessing:
Ayu vanna sukha balam panna
Anumodana!
Not to speak of all your supporters, contributors and co-workers all of you had meet to a great team and Dhamma samagii.
Yours in respect
metta and mudita
Johann
(PS: while working, I found here and there some minor typos and other stuff on ATI, which I always forwarded on the adress john@... since I have seen that you use a different email, please let me know in the case you have not received it)

Feel welcome!
So, jetzt mal Essen. Entschuldigt.
:-*
Viel Erfolg! Und Anumodana!!

Sadhu!
Ja, die da ist vieles nicht nachvollziehbar.Nein, das ist nicht gestohlen. Das ist gegeben.
Laß mich dir zwei Fragen stellen, Moritz.

setze deinen Weg fort,

Access to Insight retires 2013.12.10
Dear Access to Insight readers,
I’ve been touched by the many good wishes I’ve received from you in the last few months since I announced my retirement from Access to Insight. It has been a joy and an honor to share this work with such a supportive, attentive, earnest, and grateful audience of readers and practitioners. Thank you all.
To all of you who have contributed in so many ways over the years to making Access to Insight what it is today, I extend my heartfelt thanks. And I offer a special bow of appreciation to those of you who have been quietly reading these pages, putting the Buddha’s teachings into practice, and discovering for yourselves the truths toward which they point.
Although I am retiring, Access to Insight will remain in its present state at www.accesstoinsight.org into the foreseeable future. If you are a webmaster, web designer, web developer, or software developer and you are interested in advancing the use of technology in studying the Dhamma, I invite you to read "A Parting Note to ATI Techies (http://www.accesstoinsight.org/tech/parting.html)".
I send you all my best wishes for the greatest success in all your wholesome endeavors.

Werte Access to Insight Leser,
Ich sende all meine besten Wünsche für großen Erfolg in all Ihren heilsamen Unternehmungen.
