For stump-tailed macaque, the ministry recorded 56 remaining groups of this globally endangered species in Cambodia in 2020, each of which has between 50 and 60 members. The species is registered in the IUCN Red List as vulnerable.

There is a small number of stump-tailed macaque to the west of the Mekong River and a moderate amount of them live to the east of the rivers in Cambodia. They are also found in northeastern India, southern China, northern Thailand and some parts of Indochina.

The stump-tailed macaque looks similar to the northern pig-tailed macaque. The only difference is that the stump-tailed macaque has a bright pink or red face and is bigger than the pig-tailed macaques. It normally weighs between 8-12 kg. Stump-tailed macaques have bright pink or red faces which darken to brown or nearly black as they age and are exposed to sunlight. The whiskers under the chin may form a rather well-developed beard in mature males. They are covered with long, shaggy fur, but their short tails and faces are hairless and they go bald with age. The pelvic part of the tail is short and thin, and less than 10% of the length from head to body.

They prefer to live in the highlands, or in evergreen tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests, and thrive in colder climates at elevations of up to 2km above sea level. The stump-tailed macaque relies on the rainforest for food and shelter, and is known to eat small insects, as well as seeds, fruits, tubers and other plants.

Cambodia has around 35,000 pileated gibbons, making it the country with the most of this kind of endangered species in the world.

The pileated gibbon is a rare species and is listed on the IUCN Red List as endangered species worldwide and is listed in Appendix I of the CITES Convention. This pileated gibbon is native to Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. According to the IUCN, there are an estimated 65,000 of pileated gibbons worldwide, of which Cambodia is believed to have the highest number of pileated gibbons, with about 35,000 living in dense and semi-dense forests in Cambodian natural protected areas, especially the Cardamom Mountain. There are around 30,000 pileated gibbons in eastern Thailand, and there are a few others in southwestern Laos.

Pileated gibbons are easily identified as female or male, with the female being white and having a capped head and black chest. Male pileated gibbons have black fur when they are 3 to 4 years old, except for the arms, legs and hair around the genitals are white. The face of the female and male is black and there is white hair growing around the face up to the ears. The infant’s skin is light gray in color. At the age of four or five months, two black spots will appear on the skin, one of which is on the head with crown-shaped like while the other one is on the chest. Female pileated gibbons change their color when they are two or three years old and later turn light brown as adults, with a triangular black spot on the chest and a black crown on the head. Pileated gibbons have long arms and no tail.

Pileated gibbons are found in dense and semi-dense forests. In general, they live in small groups of two to five, including the adult male, adult female and the offspring. Pileated gibbons reach adulthood at the age of 6 years old. They spend many hours on tall trees and often swing from one branch to another in the morning. Their frugivorous diet includes all kinds of fruits, leaves, flowers and insects. Female pileated gibbons give birth to a single offspring after 210 days of gestation. The reproductive cycle is between two to three years. The female and male pileated gibbon of each group make simultaneous call in the morning to control their territories, and the call can be heard within a distance of 1 to 2 km. The special characteristic of pileated gibbons is that they are monogamous and loyal to its mate, lives in a family group and does not pose any threat to human being.

The green peacock population of Cambodia has increased by between 2,000 and 3,000 in the protected areas. It is listed as a globally endangered species in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.

The world recorded up to 20,000 adult peacocks and now Cambodia is estimated to have the highest number of green peacocks, while China, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos PDR and Indonesia have less than 1,000 peacocks in each country.

The first large animal met here was a large, maybe 1,2 -1.5m  "Dragon", but never saw one again. He was crossing right back Atma when entering the cave once.

Maybe a Asian water monitor

Most animals are "simply" food here, and only the last two years (possible because all eaten away) more seldom that "bush met" falls into the bowl. Lizard of all kinds are very common food of the native Suy people and former forest soldier here.

This dragon was one under the first "welcomed" Atma at the Ashram, once short before night on second, third day. No idea of the name, but maybe 1,2 - 1,5m long.

Some weeks ago, at night, the loud noise of a large reptile was heard wandering around the Ashram, later also up around Bhantes Kuti.

In the first years, nothing else than unknown bush meat of all kind would have found into the alms bowl.
