From touch there comes Vedana (feeling), from feeling upadana (holding on, entertaining), from that craving (tanha), from tanha then bhava (becoming), from becoming jati, taking a stand, birth. With taking a stand, als the mass of suffering, aging, sickness and death.
If ones like to understand how this works, one needs to investigate this touch at first place and how to remove it, so that one self isn't hurt not other when taking another stand.
If one uses some outwardly protection to ease this next steps touch to a pleasing, one would not only cheat oneself in regard of the quality of different stand, would not investigate much, as pleasing most of the time, would not look where he takes a stand and smash a lot of others under the outwardly protection. Neither feeling the own pain through taking a stand, not that of those one puts his stand, and the usual growing ignorance in regard of possible dukkha, would not increase ones staying on the practice of not harming and improve of it to a level where there is even no more need to take a stand, to seek for another birth at all and such has right view at it's beginning, in the middle and at the end of a holly walk about release. A non-harming that abounds all outwardly protection, to really protect all and oneself, before, while and after the next taking of a stand. In this way, step by step, peace is possible to gain, guided by there refuge into the gems as the only "outwardly" all around protection and metta, right view as ones inwardly guide. It wouldn't work if one uses touch compensation, walk this way in shoes or even uses vehicles, but just increas ones ignorance in regard of touch and taking stands, those suffering under it, and the line that leads to another becoming and stand wouldn't break up. Not to speak about using vehicles, even to a point of flying insdeed of Jhana for more refined steps till there is no more landing anywhere and yet unshakeable.
This is how this step by step path, in that mode had been gone, is gone and will be gone, walked, by all Arahats and those who desire to follow the path of peace to total liberation from relay on anything to overcome Dukkha and arriving at Khema.
Try to be nice to your self and all others and don't put on shoes or others between yourself and the places where you take another stand so that all burdens may soon find an end.
