Good to praise a tradition which wise praise, although my person knows less about Chinese traditions and although many in Cambodia follow the, they are seldom able to refer to specifically back ground.

Coming across that today the so calked "Qingming"- day is celebrated, thought to make the day of paying gratitude toward past beloved and ancestor a topic.

Maybe some like to share more info about it.

Kana has heard from her grandfather about the tellings of his ancestors that they once came the land of the Khmer on horse , wearing long hair and carried swords. (According to the Bhikkhunīs of Wat Panna: the time of Rajavangsa cheng (Qing dynasty)

But after coming and starting living here, marry in this land od the Khmer, as my grandfather grew up here, they follower the Khmer customs or the Buddha Sasana because his grandfather already had the tendency to learnand follow good customs and tradition, as the Khmer tradition presents, before they where allowed to marry.

Every Chinese custom, like sacrifies "Sein toward head of water" had to be addopted to Khmer traditions or Buddha Sasana, and the grand-children continued integrating fest by inviting monks at home or even celebrate in monasteries by offers to the Sangha.

កាលពីថ្ងៃ ទី3 ខែមេសា ឆ្នាំ 2022 ពីធីបុណ្យសែនផ្នូរ/Qingming
ចាស់ៗបានកំណត់យក ព្រោះជាថ្ងៃអាទិត្យ កូនចៅ បានឈប់សម្រាក ជុំគ្នា
ដើម្បីមកវត្តធ្វើបុណ្យ ជាមូយព្រះសង្ឃ និងបានបោសសំអាតចេតិយម្តងម្កាល។

On the 3. day of Mesaumonth, year 2022 the occasion of the "Sein Chnour" (Quinming) was chosen by the elders, because it was a sunday, and leaded the children to do merits in the monastery toward the Sublime Sangha and also cleaned up the Cetiya together at this place.

Ever custom isn't something gained by birth but by adopting, even that of the Noble Ones, as long as not reached the path. Only that of the Arahats, the highest, is a "own", "selfattained" and unchangeable one. Having reached the stream, common customs and rituals are abound and if followed, simply as respect toward one's former relatives if not requiring unskilful deeds.

The story of origin in Khmer seems to be similar the short account on wiki Qingming Festival (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qingming_Festival), telling about virtue and devotion of discipline toward master, renouncing in the forest and deadly end by setting the forest on fire to get the renouncing ones back.

The later King forgot about the devotion of his servant (once even cut flesh from his own body to serve the Prince with meal), who later rejected to come back and died with his mother in the wild fire.

Also called "cold food fest", as people stopped to light fire in the dry season totally, remembering the effects on virtuous and others living in the forest.

Proverb: "while some can burn off an entire mountain, others are kept from even lighting up to eat their rice"

Yes. Because the ancestor rituals became a to excessive custom the king later then ordered to make such only on this days, the day remembering the servant Jie an his mother, and the missery of having forgotten others goodness when wealthy later.

The origin and meaning of this fest and forest-fire avoiding month is much to unknown. This year peaking on 5. April, full moon day.

May all see their former relatives and received goodness in the past everywhereto avoid great faults.

The reminder to have compassion toward ancestors, avoiding fires, will be celebrated on 4. April this year.
