This days, aside of the Uposatha of the cowboys, the Niganthas Uposatha is most popular, since householder-equanimity increases consume and debts.
Nobody likes burdens and all just like sensual pleasures. So it's an easy catch to suggest others that they just need to develop equanimity in regard of self-responsibility, that they wouldn't get in troubles as long as consuming unattached.
So the first of what nowadays "Buddhist" go after, is avoiding just their duties, yet still relaying on many relations: in many cases they also deny duties toward the base of the six reflections for releases.
While dwelling in ideas of "no-self", grow unseen to huge selfishlies, relaying just on consume. When ever burden may come up, they either run away or deny responsibility. "Not mine" toward required sacrifices, dukkha, and all but "mine" in regard of consume of pleasures.
In that way people become not homeless, but their houses, lose their minds and head toward "mind-less beings".
As long as home-tasks, relation duties, are not done, or without fault relations are abound, there will be no release but for the most just increasing of debts till one has to come back and work them out.
As long as relaying, demanding, on a certain relation, one is required to sacrifices toward it. That's in gross and refined areas. Relaying on form, sound, smell... ideas, one has to sacrifices toward it to gain pleasures from it.
In this way, when using all gained free time in onejs current relation and sacrifices toward liberating, Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha, Sila, caga, deva-qualities, one does also invest toward relation above world and beyond.
Sooner or later there will be the point where one, having made the hometasks, home-giving ups, and pre-invested into sublime relations by sacrifices toward this six bases, wher one can leave house, inwardly and outwardly, can go the highes liberating way of the Brahmacariya and gain at least, if not total, liberation of no-return, within this very existance.
