Dyed all robes yesterday successful, supported by good weather. The Venerables slowly used to each other and customs, Dhamma talk, alms round, dhamma talk seclusion... later visiting them on remote and currently pleasing places, with no disturbancesaside of Nivarana-Dhammas which have to be fought back, again and again.

Phena Sutta: Foam

On one occasion the Blessed One was staying among the Ayojjhans on the banks of the Ganges River. There he addressed the monks: “Monks, suppose that a large glob of foam were floating down this Ganges River, and a man with good eyesight were to see it, observe it, & appropriately examine it. To him — seeing it, observing it, & appropriately examining it — it would appear empty, void, without substance: for what substance would there be in a glob of foam? In the same way, a monk sees, observes, & appropriately examines any form that is past, future, or present; internal or external; blatant or subtle; common or sublime; far or near. To him — seeing it, observing it, & appropriately examining it — it would appear empty, void, without substance: for what substance would there be in form?

”Now suppose that in the autumn — when it's raining in fat, heavy drops — a water bubble were to appear & disappear on the water, and a man with good eyesight were to see it, observe it, & appropriately examine it. To him — seeing it, observing it, & appropriately examining it — it would appear empty, void, without substance: for what substance would there be in a water bubble? In the same way, a monk sees, observes, & appropriately examines any feeling that is past, future, or present; internal or external; blatant or subtle; common or sublime; far or near. To him — seeing it, observing it, & appropriately examining it — it would appear empty, void, without substance: for what substance would there be in feeling?

“Now suppose that in the last month of the hot season a mirage were shimmering, and a man with good eyesight were to see it, observe it, & appropriately examine it. To him — seeing it, observing it, & appropriately examining it — it would appear empty, void, without substance: for what substance would there be in a mirage? In the same way, a monk sees, observes, & appropriately examines any perception that is past, future, or present; internal or external; blatant or subtle; common or sublime; far or near. To him — seeing it, observing it, & appropriately examining it — it would appear empty, void, without substance: for what substance would there be in perception?

”Now suppose that a man desiring heartwood, in quest of heartwood, seeking heartwood, were to go into a forest carrying a sharp ax. There he would see a large banana tree: straight, young, of enormous height. He would cut it at the root and, having cut it at the root, would chop off the top. Having chopped off the top, he would peel away the outer skin. Peeling away the outer skin, he wouldn't even find sapwood, to say nothing of heartwood. Then a man with good eyesight would see it, observe it, & appropriately examine it. To him — seeing it, observing it, & appropriately examining it — it would appear empty, void, without substance: for what substance would there be in a banana tree? In the same way, a monk sees, observes, & appropriately examines any fabrications that are past, future, or present; internal or external; blatant or subtle; common or sublime; far or near. To him — seeing them, observing them, & appropriately examining them — they would appear empty, void, without substance: for what substance would there be in fabrications?

“Now suppose that a magician or magician's apprentice were to display a magic trick at a major intersection, and a man with good eyesight were to see it, observe it, & appropriately examine it. To him — seeing it, observing it, & appropriately examining it — it would appear empty, void, without substance: for what substance would there be in a magic trick? In the same way, a monk sees, observes, & appropriately examines any consciousness that is past, future, or present; internal or external; blatant or subtle; common or sublime; far or near. To him — seeing it, observing it, & appropriately examining it — it would appear empty, void, without substance: for what substance would there be in consciousness?

“Seeing thus, the well-instructed disciple of the noble ones grows disenchanted with form, disenchanted with feeling, disenchanted with perception, disenchanted with fabrications, disenchanted with consciousness. Disenchanted, he grows dispassionate. Through dispassion, he's released. With release there's the knowledge, 'Released.' He discerns that 'Birth is ended, the holy life fulfilled, the task done. There is nothing further for this world.'”

That is what the Blessed One said. Having said that, the One Well-Gone, the Teacher, said further:



Form is like a glob of foam;
feeling, a bubble;
perception, a mirage;
fabrications, a banana tree;
consciousness, a magic trick —
   this has been taught
   by the Kinsman of the Sun.
However you observe them,
appropriately examine them,
they're empty, void
   to whoever sees them
   appropriately.

Beginning with the body
as taught by the One
with profound discernment:
when abandoned by three things
   — life, warmth, & consciousness —
form is rejected, cast aside.
When bereft of these
it lies thrown away,
   senseless,
   a meal for others.
That's the way it goes:
it's a magic trick,
an idiot's babbling.
It's said to be
   a murderer.(1)
No substance here
is found.

Thus a monk, persistence aroused,
should view the aggregates
by day & by night,
   mindful,
   alert;
should discard all fetters;
should make himself
   his own refuge;
should live as if
his head were on fire —
   in hopes of the state
   with no falling away.

Less moments which are no clearing and faith increasing moments, learning and motivation for Bhante Subhadhammo this days.

The most difficult part is of course finding proper Nissaya for Bhante, or at least possibility to clean all past. But like always: good given causes will lead to good effects and toward strong Upanissaya as well by time.

After the second rain now:

Worthy to note that it's quite possible that this was the first year (of 7th times) the forest-fires didn't enter the Ashram area, had been stopped on all sites timely and no fire from the village and east at all.

That's because of huge efforts of many, the village, the authority and many humanly and real Devas having done all of what was possible.

A little more 'normal' the last days. Nyom Chanroth came up at noon to ask for the drafts of a small Uposatha-hall made 4 years ago and how he could help with the works Nyom Vilā initiated for channeling pipes at the entrance, to ashamed to ask direct and seeing Nyom Kiem busy with works on wood cutting.

Generally: material gets fast lost (rain, lazy, villagers...), so never to much at one time.

Bhante Khemananda fights eager with teeth pain and now swollen face, holding Sati upright and able to bear. How ever, infections here easy touch nerves in the brain, making people easy think and act crazy. Now cold it makes more burden then the last weeks on walk.

Bhante Sudhamma is most joyful since abounding all householder signs, free from any fault and free to practice 24h. Eats Dhamma with joy and insight after insight, getting much of the meaning what so long just cited.

Heavy rains till far advanced into the day, Bhantes going later on alms, the dry season has end. High speed internet, up to 20 MB/s+ make update of file tags easier.
The land cooled down.

Like as if knowing the mind of co-dweller here, just as the foolish thought of walking alone arose in Bhante Subhadhammo yesterday evening, Nyom Vilā had read the Upali Sutta . Bhante getting the Buddhas approach heard in the morning, nevertheless thinks he's smarter then Upali, or possible out of other more lower reason does not abound conceit.

Desire for free touch, desire for liberality while still slave of Mara, only few are able to trace the net of defilements once caught, so Bhante will possible be another of the many Ahara-hants wandering on without just following the Gems map the Buddha left back for his disciples.

Children are only willing to be taimed when getting knowing goodness and dwell on gratitude. Once the trace of right view is lost, no way to enter the path again, unless Dukkha arises again, and the "womb" of the Gems is still open.

One of the many kinds of lizards or chameleons here, up to 50cm lang. When on hunt shiny turkic color and changing it to the back ground environments color in seconds when fear arises.

Bhante Subhadhammo now agreed to a more skilful undertaking, suggested to first now make a walk about back to his preceptor to clean all well and ask for leave in proper way. Done so, then either back to the Ashram or wakling on alone.

Going on maybe tomorrow, Bhante Khemananda maybe follows him on a about 250km jouney over stones and gras to Srei Tmei near Kampong Speu and then maybe south a little to Wat Thmo Bei Thom and back.

Let's see how it works out then, today getting teached directions and way and mental map.

As Bhante desired to take back signs he had abounded before, to carry them with him, Atma suggested that he makes his 'walk about alone' tomorrow after alms round, with a 20-80% change to success. May right pride be a good support to let it be an insightful undertaking, the walk over open fields before walking into forest. Surely a merely sleepless night with much space to change mind again. And it's not easy to hold on even a geographical direction, not to speak of the more importand mental one.

Sure, all in dependency is not for sure. Just is found only in real independence.

This morning Bhante Subhadhammo left after the alms round together, on his first journey on feets into unknown land. Stressed between certain joy of perfect conduct and thousand fears on the otherside, may he not only be able to challenge lures of common security but also reach his preceptor under good condition, sort things up and go on faultless in what ever good way. May he not lose faith and so stay well protected by good Devas all around.

Nyom, Nyom had started the undertaking of path up today successfully.

And another robe comes near it's possibility to use as batching already required daily, meaning to start to look up for cast off and collected garment again and start to sew anew. Otherwise it could easy happen to be left haft naked on alms suddenly, especially went tension because of weight of wet .
