Mobitel=Cellcard Nyom Cheav Villa . If, that's great since better coverage on the way and also possible to share paccaya. Sadhu.

Kana never had any device or camera on his many journeys, but Kana thinks that it would be a great gift if Bhante might open a topic and sometimes share reflections and impressions, even Khmer people would never gain, stories of merits, seclution... and no worry that wise wouldn't receive such as gift.

How is Bhante Khemakumara feeling now, short before leaving "home" into unknown?

Bhante Johann,

Kana Bhante, when there is a possibly,  Kana would share reflection and impressions, stories of merits.

May it be a opportunity for many to increase saddhā (conviction ) into the sublime Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha and may it be a opportunity for those, who do not have saddhā yet, to
gain សទ្ធា into the Trible Gem.

Kana feels fine right now.  Already cleaned up the (living room) to leave the belongings of the Sangha proper behind.  Already prepared to go “to stay" with dukkha.

Maybe he can ask Bhante Indannano whether there might be a larger bag in the store. One larger baggage with place for the robe, garments and bowl (smaller things can be placed in the bowl) is much more comfortable then using the bowl-carrier all along. Heavy enought.

Bhante Indannano do not stay at Wat Ayum at the moment.

Bhante might be probably aware, nevertheless as info: since seldom that monks are walking, not so attentive many think one is going for alms. So saying like: "I have seen a foreign monk going for alms in the evening. Foreigner do such...." are not seldom. So good to wear the bowl on the back after meal (but attention, it easily falls out of the holder) so not to give further food for such street-talks.

That's a challenge (~160km mostly crossfield). Given that Bhante might desire to walk here, there are actually very less monasteries, even lesser those suitable to rest. So recharging cellphone would be hardly possible. Smoke in the are neither gives much view to direction, not to such as far signs like mountains. Asking people, they wouldn't really know, send one up the mainroads, even backwards. If having gone smooth, he might have passed Kampong Speu province capital already. If fast he might even arrive this evening or tomorrow. May Bhante not so much seeking to arrive but spend best times where ever good to rest.

Kana just wanted to inform that Bang Cheav Villa has received a call this morning that her family saw Bhante Marcel on road nr. 3. Obviously he got lost for 3 days and didn't receive much / at all for alms.
Kana is now on the way to find Bhante and picking up Bang Villa on the way. Also, Bang Lay is already on the motorbike on the way to the village mentioned last seen.

May Bhante be well.

Fests and holidays, Uposatha... are the most "hard" days for walkabouts, since people have fixed perceptions and targets to make merits. Fastdays for wandering monks.

:) No problem at all. Bhante has feets, a bowl and the tripple Gems. No need to worry.

Good to rejoice in having had contact. It's the nature of wandering monks to be not traceable.

If he wishes to be found he would find ways.

Sadhu and mudita, Nyom Cheav Villa ,

Next to old Upanissaya, it's giving into new that makes boundages toward Nibbana firm. Next to conditions like birth, outlook, time, place, arosen effort is the most importand and most possible to be changed. Effort is what makes "impossible" seeming things posdible, incl. highest liberation.

Who would find a wandering monk easy anywhere in the fields? It's also a blessing for the villagers who could assist and take part.

Strong determination and sacrifices reach their target, sometimes fast, sometimes needing many lifetimes. So may all build upon their good Nissaya and give foremost into sila, samadhi, panna.

(Not that Atma had any doubt that Nyom would soon report and share such joy.)

Nyom Sophorn , Lay an Nyom Moritz visited Bhante Khemakumara on their way to the Ashram yesterday, as he still stayed at the same place, to ask whether he would like to join the travel. Of which he refused having got some strength again.

Reported he has been heardly receiced by the villagers need and get even to much visited and gifted already. An older lady, caring much about him told Nyom Sophorn in tears and ashamed late, that Bhante got beaten up by some drug addicted young robbers. Since monk usually carry money and luxory things here, seen as rich, it's certain a danger.

Bhante, how ever, seems to use his way for staying strict on the path, so less to worry and much place for mudita all around it.

kana received the news on Bhante Marcel from the lay people in Prey Ta Mian this morning that Bhante has left his dwelling in this village for good and left to the west. The lady who has been in touch with kana every 2nd or 3rd day had the blessing to have given alms to Bhante and realizing that Bhante was leaving.
Many blessings for all the heartwarming acts and shares of the laypeople there in supporting Bhante and all the calls for asking how to support a Tudong monk accordingly. May their trust in the triple gems repay them tenfold.

One day before Bhante Khemakumara arrived here, at Wat Akyum, brought by the police who seem to be stopping foreign-looking wanderers everywhere in the country because of Corona fear), Bhante Johann left walking towards Phnom Aural. Now three days ago. After only three days taking "rest" here, with his strained leg.

I hope there will soon be a sign of him.

As Bhante Khemakumara mentioned, the police and a district monk who were interrogating him were quite harsh and aggressive. And it took a long time until he finally was allowed to just show them on Google maps "maybe the passport could be found here", pointing to Wat Akyum, so they contacted Bhante Indaññano.

Not sure what Bhante Johann would say on such questions and how the interrogators would react, and where he would end up, without passport.

May he be travelling safely.

Sadhu, Danilo, for the good wishes. _/\_

Not really sure if the police, trying to enforce corona spread mitigation measures, are focussed so much more on foreigners, or just generally everyone who seems to be straying "out of their bounds", but it might be just easier to spot "foreigners". I mostly know hearsay while staying safely inside the Wat. So for me, so far, there are not many problems, while I am staying here inside the golden cage of Wat Akyum.
But for a foreign-looking monk who tries to walk 150 kilometers, it will be difficult to avoid getting into trouble I think.

The only "problem" inside here for me might be that people maybe tend to avoid contact a little bit. Although that is surely in large part also due to the language barrier and my own incompetence at understanding how to integrate here, I think it is also at least a little bit influenced by (justified) corona fear. Because I am coughing and sneezing a little bit sometimes (but it's getting better), it is not unreasonable to assume that I might carry the coronavirus. What is just a little cough and sneeze for a relatively young and healthy person like me might be dangerous for older, not so healthy people if they get infected.

Not really so much a problem for me, making it easier to isolate myself and keep my usual antisocial tendencies, trying to do some computer work (with a mostly very slow and unstable internet connection, tiny steps take a long time).

Bhante Khemakumara, who apparently was able to get out of the Wat to go on almsround this morning, told that the people were very happy to be able to give alms, but at the same time they were afraid. Making sure to close their mouth very fast, or to bow down very deep while receiving the Anumodana, to not possibly get any droplets of virus into their face. And then after the act of almsgiving, quickly turned away and turned their face mask on. But going to the next shop or market stand before, to buy this or that, did not seem to cause so much concern for them.

I have reason to worry that I might really carry the virus and spread it to others. So I think I should be careful.

But mostly I still worry what might happen to Bhante Johann when he gets caught and cannot show or even point to a possible location of a passport (because I think he threw it away long ago). After three days with no sign, I assume he has had no opportunity to access the internet so far. He left the Sangha tablet here. He would only ask to borrow a mobile phone from a fellow monk if there is an opportunity I think. I don't think he would ask to borrow from a layperson (which would break some Vinaya rule I think, to ask for something like that) - like a police officer or prison ward. If he ends up being put into jail, for straying without passport, maybe no one would hear about it.

Bhante Khemakumara does not seem to worry. He says Bhante Johann knows what he's doing.
That may be so. But it might still be troublesome and unhealthy for him.
Three months ago, Bhante Johann said he does not need this body anymore and it would only be a burden to repair it another time. I really hope it would last a little bit longer and not be "used up" very quickly again, after only a short time of recuperation. Malaria and dengue fever may break out again any time when he is weakened.

Bhante Khemakumara also said I should not worry if people avoid contact. Because contact is the cause for feeling. And feeling is the cause for craving... and so on. :-|
I think that is a bit too "far out" for me. So I am happy to have the opportunity to at least seek some contact here and share my worries a little bit.

May all have the possibility to focus the heart more on what is skillful so everyone gets the energy to overcome suffering.

And what is skillful?

Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammā-sambuddhassa

And what is skillful? Abstaining from taking life is skillful, abstaining from taking what is not given... from sexual misconduct... from lying... from abusive speech... from divisive tale-bearing... abstaining from idle chatter is skillful. Lack of covetousness... lack of ill will... right views are skillful. These things are termed skillful.

And what are the roots of what is skillful? Lack of greed is a root of what is skillful, lack of aversion is a root of what is skillful, lack of delusion is a root of what is skillful. These are termed the roots of what is skillful.

"When a disciple of the noble ones discerns what is unskillful in this way, discerns the root of what is unskillful in this way, discerns what is skillful in this way, and discerns the root of what is skillful in this way, when — having entirely abandoned passion-obsession, having abolished aversion-obsession, having uprooted the view-&-conceit obsession 'I am'; having abandoned ignorance & given rise to clear knowing — he has put an end to suffering & stress right in the here-&-now, it is to this extent that a disciple of the noble ones is a person of right view, one whose view is made straight, who is endowed with verified confidence in the Dhamma, and who has arrived at this true Dhamma."

May all living beings in all realms gain a share in limitless freedom from danger, freedom from animosity, and freedom from oppression.

Atma has no worries about the goodness of the sublime Buddha,Dhamma and Sangha and no worries about  someone who practice accordingly to the Buddha-Dhamma because a follower of the Triple Gem will always be well protected.

may all have confidence in what is supreme. Why?

Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammā-sambuddhassa

"Among whatever beings there may be — footless, two-footed, four-footed, many footed; with form or formless; percipient, non-percipient, neither percipient nor non-percipient — the Tathagata, worthy & rightly self-awakened, is considered supreme. Those who have confidence in the Awakened One have confidence in what is supreme; and for those with confidence in the supreme, supreme is the result."

So there was a sign of life from Bhante Johann, seen by the visit and greeting (http://forum.sangham.net/index.php?topic=52.msg22308#msg22308) of Upasika Serya this morning, having been given an account in the forum and membership in the Sanghamitta group, which Bhante Johann would have done using the admin account. Probably the photo made after giving alms to Bhante.

Now also Upasika Villa informed that Upasaka Thea's (mentioned earlier here (http://forum.sangham.net/index.php?topic=9669.msg22276#msg22276)) wife had heard people in the area talk about a foreigner monk going on pindapat near where Bhante Marcel/Khemakumara dwelt in front of Phnom Srong.

Hopefully Bhante will have a safe further travel without getting stopped by police like Bhante Khemakumara.

/me Maybe good to invite Upasaka Thea and his wife, and all the helpful "informants" also to the forum. The normal registration should also be possible again now.

Recollecting the Experienced

2. day: after having a night of (khema) in the Fields of the Khmer, Atma /Kana left the present of chisor mountain behind.

going straight north-west through the rice Fields.  Short enter the nearby villages for pindabat then return on the way through the fields.

Mothers of Khmer, looking for the kumaras khema (security) along the way.

Today thinking of how the Sublime Buddha advised to “crossing over the flood"

day 3:

At the morning, a given possibility to clean the body and robe.

went on almsround in a "remote village "

like the other days,  when the villagers recognized,  that this “barang” do not have interest in money,  fast the "mothers of Khmer" with alot of joy spreading around the place, ,  more than “just happy” to make good deeds.

at around 11 o'clock arrived at Phnom Tamao. resting a bit and then going straight north/west.

statement of the day from a Mother of Khema:

“When I was talking to him in english language, the Monk answer in khmer language and also can talk "prah Thor". he do not need Money, do not want a car or motorcycle. Just “conviction” saddhā in Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha.

 Sadhu, Sadhu "

 today's thoughts:

“every time,  when Atma/Kana goes “on the high(er) way” a feeling of “living at home”comes up, every time when Atma/Kana is "staying at a home" a feeling of “living on a highway” comes up.

right after that thinking “do not feel “at home” when you are at home and do not feel at home when on the street.  it might be,  that a poisonous snake or a car hit you right there."

Being home-less do not mean to living on a street. it means not to make a stand-hold in “world” anymore so nothing can hit you right there .

/me  In between, my person thought to post a message by Nyom Villa given in the shoutbox here, so that general worries may be eased and to don't think that there is hardly ever any real dislike of especially good monk (even if not so on path or much introduced) and more of state organs, if one is on good ways and sticking with Vinaya. Of course there can be missunderstandings and dangers for possible over-eager monks getting fear or govermental organs.

Quote from: Nyom Villa in the talkbox some time ago
I kana used to talk to the Khmer monk at Wat AngChum who contacted to Akyum with the Police in Korng Pisey District, the monk want to apologize again and again he said he and the Police had no bad will againt Bhante. Because of cannot talk and understand the language...

Sure Bhante approves and praises such, accepts that with mudita, and good to give the monk also a feedback, as well as to the state organs since such accidantly things can burden very heavy not able to get out of a fault and to purify.

Walking and dwell quite long in a mode, now maybe eight years in the land of the Khema, of not holding any rights like a bird, and refuge aside of the tripple, such encounters are very usual and my person can not remember any case where not all, if not right from the beginning, but at the end of such investigations, before walking on or rest, especially the Khmer actually people of execution did not do a lot of merits. If it happens to leave each other by a side of not being welcome it's merely, sad but true as well as most bad kamma and guidiance of others, by monks, never, till now, by those who do just there job at most and know their particulary task.

So my person could only find great praise of the lands police officals and other state organs, in regard of their trust and faith toward the Juwels, althought surely encounter a lot of other that faith supporting under monks at larg. Maybe my person finds the right place to share some of such stories when a stranger beggar gets approached by all kinds of authorities and stories of merits to join and to get a little different light of general qualities surely hard to find anywhere else in the world. Of course such stories had find there arising at Corona-times as well, but actually not really different in containing much food to join the merits, huge and small of security organs.

Generally, please, no one needs really worry much about a monk on dhammic walk about and familar in the costums of the Noble Ones. That's actually why they do such in that way, not taking any refuge aside th Gems and to be nevery much of a burden for anyone but just a field to gain Saddha and merits fro those who wish to take a possibility seldom to get. So never feel angry or fearful as this is the point of reminder that there are the Gems free of fear and that one can follow the way to gain fearlessness and independency likewise for oneself following the stream of those "Pros satta" as that mode of life of almsbeggar is called "serving all being" and non particular part or side, harmless.

Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammā-sambuddhassa

"Abandoning false speech, he abstains from false speech. He speaks the truth, holds to the truth, is firm, reliable, no deceiver of the world. This, too, is part of his virtue.

"Abandoning divisive speech he abstains from divisive speech. What he has heard here he does not tell there to break those people apart from these people here. What he has heard there he does not tell here to break these people apart from those people there. Thus reconciling those who have broken apart or cementing those who are united, he loves concord, delights in concord, enjoys concord, speaks things that create concord. This, too, is part of his virtue.

"Abandoning abusive speech, he abstains from abusive speech. He speaks words that are soothing to the ear, that are affectionate, that go to the heart, that are polite, appealing and pleasing to people at large. This, too, is part of his virtue.

"Abandoning idle chatter, he abstains from idle chatter. He speaks in season, speaks what is factual, what is in accordance with the goal, the Dhamma, and the Vinaya. He speaks words worth treasuring, seasonable, reasonable, circumscribed, connected with the goal. This, too, is part of his virtue.

"Whereas some brahmans and contemplatives, living off food given in faith, are addicted to talking about lowly topics such as these — talking about kings, robbers, ministers of state; armies, alarms, and battles; food and drink; clothing, furniture, garlands, and scents; relatives; vehicles; villages, towns, cities, the countryside; women and heroes; the gossip of the street and the well; tales of the dead; tales of diversity [philosophical discussions of the past and future], the creation of the world and of the sea, and talk of whether things exist or not — he abstains from talking about lowly topics such as these. This, too, is part of his virtue.

"But because you see your transgression as such and make amends in accordance with the Dhamma, we accept your confession. For it is a cause of growth in the Dhamma & Discipline of the noble ones when, seeing a transgression as such, one makes amends in accordance with the Dhamma and exercises restraint in the future."

Arriving at goodness by overcoming goodness

Someday, when sitting quietly under a tree. a group of people arrived at that place.

One of the leading people was holding a stick in the hands. After venerating and giving some tonics sitting also quietly. The leading People still holding a stick in the hand.

then asking the visitors:“What is the purpose your visit? ”

the visitors answered:“we want to see the monk and do some good deeds through veneration and giving some tonic!”

“Sadhu, Mudita,  it is good to visit and see monks, it is good for someone of respectful nature to honors what is worth to honor."

after that, all seems to be more relaxed.

Asking further: “What is the reason for holding a stick in the hand?”

Answer:“When there is an animal or something, i can protect me and other by using the stick!” (raised and moved the stick)

“When someone is acting in an harmful way, is this a protection for oneself and others?

“No!”

"hurting other with body, mind and speech, is this wholesome (kusalaṃ) or unwholesome (akusalaṃ)?"

“unwholesome!”

"Is practicing silā (virtue) wholesome or unwholesome? "

“wholesome!"

“when someone is practicing wholesome in body, mind and speech, is this a protection for someone and other?"

“Yes!”

“Why?”

“Because someone do not acting harmful to oneself and others anymore !”

"Is this good or bad?"

“Sure, it is good!”

“Sadhu!”

"there is no reason for someone, who arrived at good-ness, to make use of sticks, knifes etc."

After that, fast "letting go" off the stick.

after talked/practice about veneration, dāna (generousity) silā (virtue), wholesome unwholesome. the visitors,  at ease, went back to their homes.

There are two different goodness kana/Atma was referring to.

One goodness based on micchā diṭṭhi (wrong view) and another goodness which is based on sammā diṭṭhi (right view).

someone who want to protect themselves and other by using stick, knifes, weapons, is someone who cannot see,  that such acts would only increase suffering.

Even when someone thinks “out of goodness I will protect my mother, father, children, beloved, friends, House, car, motorcycle with this and that stick, knife, weapon.” it would not protect someone from suffering, it is still based on micchā diṭṭhi (wrong view)

At the moment, when someone sees  the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, and the truth of the path that leads to the end of suffering, someone is no more able to act in a way that will increase suffering for themselves and other.

Someone becomes a protector of goodness.

Someone arrived at goodness. (based on right view)
